A guide to enhancing your singing skills
How to improve your singing?
Everyone likes to sing. However, some people sing, and everyone likes it; some people sing, but everyone is scared to death. Of course, you can learn to sing systematically to improve your level. However, if you don’t want to learn systematically, then you should try to develop your own style. So, now let’s talk about how to improve your singing.
(A) Get the right tone
- Perform basic scale exercises
- While this may sound a bit boring, basic scale practice will not only allow you to sing more accurately but also train your ears.
- Indeed, “Do Re Mi” in “The Sound of Music” is actually a good song to get started.
- The notes are named after their position, but not their actual name.
- In other words, if you usually sing in the key of C, the first three notes are C, D, and E. If you’re singing in the key of F#, then the first three notes are F#, G#, and A#.
- Also, no matter what tune you sing, it starts with “Do, Re, Mi”.
- If you have a guitar or a piano, use them to find the right tone. Or you can also find some software online to help you.
2. Take it easy and practice “do re mi” with different scales
- Start in C key, then practice C# and work your way up.
- Basic scale: Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do
- Moreover, make it a little more difficult and skip a note each time you sing.
- Up two notes, then down the next note, for example: Do Mi Re Fa Mi Sol Fa La Sol Ti La Do Ti Re Do
- Be slow and careful at first, and make sure you get it right from the start. This will give you more control over your voice and use also the instrument to check to make sure your pitch is correct.
(B) Be your own teacher
- Buy a microphone
- You don’t need to buy a particularly good microphone because even the built-in microphone of a laptop can be recharged.
2. Run recording software on your computer or smartphone
3. Play your favorite songs and find lyrics
- Keep the lyrics in mind by listening so that you can focus on how to sing instead of focusing on the lyrics.
4. Record your singing
- Sing along with the original singer; focus also on breathing and pitch.
- Even if you make a mistake, don’t stop; be sure to finish singing.
5. Click the “Play” button (black triangle) to listen to your own singing
- Note: Listen carefully to your own songs and find out where they are lacking. Re-listen to the original song and compare it.
6. Save your recordings if you can
- This way, you can see your progress.
7. Keep trying
- You can add your own emotions to the song, and it doesn’t have to be the same as the original song.
8. Sing for at least half an hour a day, or longer (be careful, excessive practice may hurt your vocal cords)
9. Find different ways to make your voice
- Pronounced from the chest, from the throat, from the nose…… Find the differences in these pronunciations.
10. Learn to sing like a kitten and sing different pitches
- Sing slowly, allowing the sound to slowly reverberate through your mouth, nose, and chest.
11. Try singing high notes
- Try to pronounce it from your chest so that your high pitch sounds powerful instead of shouting at the top of your voice.
12. Find some other information to help you improve
- For example, you can go to YouTube to watch videos of teaching singing.
- Ask your family, friends, and teachers to give you some advice.
Alert
- If you find your voice hard to hear, don’t worry about it. Listening to your own voice can sometimes be a bit weird, and you can ask for other people’s opinions.
- Practicing singing may disturb others, you can comfort them by saying that let them bear with it first, and you will gradually improve. Don’t practice while they’re watching a favorite TV series.
- If you teach yourself to sing, you may accidentally injure your vocal cords. So be careful when practicing.
Conclusion
In conclusion, honing your singing prowess is a journey marked by dedication and consistency. By adhering to fundamental techniques, recording and analyzing your progress, and seeking inspiration from diverse sources, you are on the path to becoming a more accomplished vocalist. Remember, every melodious step forward is a testament to your commitment to the art of singing. Keep refining your craft, and may your musical aspirations reach new heights.
